Celerity Design Notes and Instructions Celerity Design

It should be fairly evident how to use the program. Simply press the Random button to randomly generate a word. Alternatively you can type a word in the text box and either press return or click the Search button.
Only single words can be searched for but substrings are supported so typing Cel would find Celerity. The search is not case sensitive.
Currently user messages should appear at the bottom of your browser, eg: "Can't find [word]" but I may change this at some point.
If the display becomes corrupted, eg. the buttons disappear. then try clicking the program window. If that doesn't work then try scrolling your browser window so the program window is off page and then scroll back again. Failing that, simply hit the refresh button on your browser to reload the program.
The search also checks through both the words themselves and the definitions so...

Examples of useful words to search for are:
Latin
Archaic
Norse (to find Old Norse words)
French (to find Old French words)
Middle (to find Middle English words)
N (to find a noun)
Obsolete (to find a really old word)
Poetic
Literary

Notes on grammar

Transitive/Intransitive verbs: Denotes whether the verb requires an object to be the focus. eg: Vanquish is always transitive: "We have vanquished the Athenians!", Triumph is always intransitive: "We have triumphed!" and Win can be either.

Pronunciation - I have started adding pronunciation notes where appropriate.

Also, please remember that this program works whether you are connected to the Internet or not - so if you are British and have to actually pay for your online calls (sense the bitterness there!) then disconnect while you are playing! [This was written back in 1997, times have changed a bit since then and some parts of the UK now have fairly decent cable modem access - /\dam ]
